Yarn, Wool and Fleece
At Hallwood Jacobs we turn the annual clip from our small pedigree Jacob flock into beautifully crafted, completely undyed British yarn. Each fleece is hand-sorted by colour and semi-worsted spun in Dorset to create warm, resilient, limited-batch Aran yarn in three natural shades.
We currently sell our limited edition wool directly through Ida's House wool shop in Lewis, East Sussex and through our own Etsy Store.
Our natural yarn
Our yarn is produced in small batches each year. Each shade is completely undyed, hand-sorted by colour, and semi-worsted spun in Dorset for smoothness, strength and exceptional stitch definition.
Quantities are limited, and each batch reflects the character of the season’s clip.
We sell our wool directly (through our Etsy shop) and through Ida's Wool House and Fine Yarn Shop in Lewis, East Sussex. Ask for the Hallwood Jacobs 'limited edition' aran yarn. It comes in four colours - dark brown, grey (a mix of the cream and brown), cream, and 'humbug' - and Ida's House have our entire remaining Humbug stocks!
Cream Jacob (Aran)
100% natural, undyed wool
A soft, classic shade created from the lightest fibres in our Jacob fleeces. Cream Jacob shows texture beautifully and is perfect for heritage cables, cosy accessories and timeless Aran garments.
The blanket illustrated here was knitted by my mum, and is beautifully soft, warm and heavy to lie under. No pilling at all after a few years of use. And the lamb is Milly, who is now 3 years old (and due to give birth to her own lambs in April '26), and whose lambswool forms part of this clip.
Dark Brown Jacob (Aran)
100% natural, undyed wool
Our rarest and most admired shade. Only a small proportion of each Jacob fleece grows naturally dark brown fibre, making this deep chocolate yarn truly special. Smooth, warm and velvety, with superb stitch definition.
The 'sheep' jumper illustrated here was knitted by my friend Emily Pegues, and is lettered in our cream Aran wool. The aran brown jumper is modelled by my mum, who knitted it. The semi-worsted yarn means that there are fewer fibres in the yarn to irritate the skin, so it's lovely and soft to wear. And the Ewe is Sylvia, whose lovely dark wool patches form part of this clip. Sylvia is expecting twins in April '26.
Mid Grey Jacob (Aran)
100% natural, undyed wool
A versatile, beautifully even grey produced by blending cream and brown Jacob fibres in carefully chosen proportions. Timeless, wearable and wonderfully smooth — perfect for everyday jumpers, accessories and homeware.
The vest top/ sleeveless cardigan illustrated here was knitted by my mum, and my husband wears it all the time. No pilling at all. The Aran sweater is modelled by my mum, who also knitted it. And the sheep here are (group photo) Marjorie and Gloria, and (individual photo) Meatloaf whose wool forms part of this clip.
Limited edition!
All of our yarn is produced in limited annual batches from our own flock. Once a shade is sold out, it will not return until the next shearing - and then won't be exactly the same colour.....
Sheepskin rugs
We produce our own sheepskin rugs annually. Unbelievable quality - and extra large - average 120cm long x 70cm wide. Fleece length 7-9cm, and better quality than you will find elsewhere. They are from our own sheep and turned into sheepskins at the Devonia tannery in Devon. The cat is not included (she just loves her sheepskin).
We only create 5-10 a year, and sell them directly at £120 a fleece.
